Commissioning Technician work on data center projects in Virginia

Before an operator accepts a new data hall, every system is tested to failure and back: pulling the plug on utility power to prove generators catch the load, blocking cooling to verify thermal ride-through, and running integrated systems tests that simulate the worst day the facility will ever have. Commissioning technicians script, execute, and document those tests across five levels, from factory witness testing to full integrated systems testing with heat-load banks.

Commissioning draws experienced electricians, HVAC techs, controls techs, and power-plant operators who know how systems behave when stressed. Roles can involve travel between projects. Building Commissioning Association resources and credentials such as CxA or CBCP may be relevant, while employer requirements vary.

Licensing and training context: Requirements vary by state, employer, project, and job level. Verify the job posting and the relevant state licensing or apprenticeship authority. Compare reviewed training paths and trade careers.
